Description
At arecent day in the local park, we caught this moment on film. My 2 year old grandson wanted to share his cake with his dad who is my son. Reference photo, used with permission, was taken by my daughter-in-law. I put a digital "watercolor" filter on a digital copy of the reference photo and used that version as my reference photo, and proceeded to draw as if it were a watercolor painting. I wanted to see if I was able to try a "looser" slightly more "abstract" style as compared with most of my drawings. An amazing thing happened in working this drawing... I achieved the best likenesses of people I know and love that I ever have! There may be a lesson in this! Perhaps there is so much more that we see in our loved ones than their physical features! Anyway, I finished it Christmas Eve morning... just in time!! Featured in the following Groups: Your Story of Art and The Artists Buzzz.

Thank you so very much Laurie! I felt that way exactly when I saw it happen and was so thrilled to have captured the reference photo so I could spend the time drawing it and feeling all the wonderful feelings again the whole time! :)

Great mixed media use to create a masterful painting that also reveals the relationship and engagement between the subjects. Just beautiful!
Kathy Crockett replied:
By the way, tho. This drawing is completely colored pencil, no mixed media. Any digital affects were applied only to my refernce photo which I used to then draw this picture.
