I have never entered a Edit This Contest because I never thought I could produce a drawing fast enough, but couldn't resist the reference photo supplied by Chrystyne Novak for Edit This 61! When I was 15, I spent a summer in a remote village in Northern Ghana. It was a wonderful experience and I loved getting tto know life in the village which included so many sights, sounds, smells, voices, dances, and joy of life! Though this market did not include beautifully painted carts, it made up for it with lovely fabrics and the LIFE mentioned. All these many years later, I have also had the opportunity to visit some of the tropical islands in the Caribbean which Chrystyne's photo, and especially in this time of travel restrictions, I thoroughly enjoyed to take this virtual, rushed trips to all those memories while constructing this drawing. Adding Charles William Adofo's free use Unsplash photo of the Mama and her son was the finishing touch needed to make me feel like I was there again...
I LOVE BEAUTIFUL THINGS... AND CREATIVITY OF ANY KIND I have always so admired creative, imaginative people. But, I have also always been afraid to try to join them. I have never had an art lesson, but have been very fortunate to be on sites where amazing artists share some of the things they've learned and even make suggestions or praises to novices like I was. In 2008, I picked up a pencil, and drew a photo that impressed me. For someone who had no lessons, no experience, it wasn't bad, and I got the rush that comes from creating, from trying! My family and friends encouraged me to keep at it, to try new mediums, and with time and practice, I started to produce pieces that I was proud of... and actually wanted to share. So here I am,...
