Why we are fortunate to have this beautiful place protected for all to see is tragic, as it was the site of one of this county's most bloody battles in the effort to save this country as one single country, and to free a people who had spent hundreds of years dragged away from their homes and enslaved in the "Land of the Free." The irony, the sense of tragedy, the cost, all impress themselves on your visit here, often totally unexpectedly. Since I live so nearby, it is a place I visit several times a year for the beauty, and peace that exists there now, and am often unexpectedly stabbed with memory of WHY I am able to enjoy is peace and beauty today. That said, I have updated my drawing with a touch of digital color enhancement in an attempt to remedy my poor photo-taking skills. I LOVE BEAUTIFUL THINGS... AND CREATIVITY OF ANY KIND I have always so admired creative, imaginative people. But, I have also always been afraid to try to join them. I have never had an art lesson, but have been very fortunate to be on sites where amazing artists share some of the things they've learned and even make suggestions or praises to novices like I was. In 2008, I picked up a pencil, and drew a photo that impressed me. For someone who had no lessons, no experience, it wasn't bad, and I got the rush that comes from creating, from trying!
