Description
We took our 10 year old granddaughter back to the annual local Alpaca farm open house weekend in November. We hadn't been able to go in two years and she was so excited to go back. She took an alpaca for a walk, petted the new baby alpacas, and then ran to the barn to see if there were any new litters of barn kittens this year. It was the high point of her last visit! But no, none were there. Cats were running around all over the farm though. At one point, I had to excuse myself for a few minutes and when I returned there she sat, under a tree, cuddling a kitty who she had already named Gingerbread! Hahaha! She spent the next hour doing just that! 10 is just about the age that when someone draws your picture and it doesn't look like you, you are at least dissappointed. Since I have trouble with an actual likeness of people I know, I decided to try something new. I applied a digital filter to my reference photo which applied stained-glass lead marks on the reference photo. There are no digital filters on the finished product you see here. It is drawn with colored pencil and the "lead" defining the stained glass is drawn with .05 archival ink marker. She won't see this until Christmas, but everyone else who sees it, (even her 4 year old cousin) knows who it is instantly! Its meant to be seen from across the room. The reference photo was my own. Here's to trying something new! Merry Christmas everyone! In case you're concerned, Gingerbread IS still at the farm! Haha.
Set your screen across the room to see properly...not meant for close-up viewing.

Wow! I am sure that she will be thrilled when she sees it, Kathy. Love the idea of making it look like stained glass. Beautifully rendered. f

Thanks Laurel!! I actually use my computer screen to view my reference photos. I put the gigital stained glass filter on the reference. No digital alteration to the finished drawing. Sorry If I was confusing.
